The ballet Giselle is one of the oldest ballets to have survived into our time. It is also one of the most popular and most beautiful pieces ever made. I truly hope to be able to dance in it one day. Giselle is one of the first ballets I have seen in the wonderful atmosphere of the Alexander theatre of course. It’s impossible to get bored of it! Because I’m so passionately in love with this ballet I wanted to know everything about it. And so I decided to do my project work about it. By searching through books and archives I have gotten a lot more information about the ballet and am now even more enthralled by the world of Giselle.“
Ten years ago Anna-Mari wrote the introduction above for her 9th grade presentation of Giselle, Heidi fell in love at her confirmation camp, and Masi was interviewed for the national newspaper’s cool weekly addition as an example of lazy teens. Now, ten years later, the trio returns to Anna-Mari Karvonen’s presentation to prepare a reinterpretation of it.
The performance is Anna-Mari’s, Heidi’s and Masi’s attempt to approach absoluteness and the act of becoming lost, and by chance, the emotions of a teenager open up in front of the three like a gorge waiting to be jumped into.
The trio that has been looking into lightness and chance, has abandoned the techniques they know best, and has instead begun to look for a performance in other places where it might be found: in Berlin, on Youtube, in old diaries and cemeteries.
“The search for Giselle is still going on, but already it can be said that the performance will not only be immensely funny, but damn smart as well. It will arouse all kinds of feelings and will become a total knockout. ” |
